It doesn"t. The refill capacity is more like 6 1/2 quarts. I fill the filter, pour in five quarts of oil, back it off the ramps, let it warm up and add to the "full" mark . Usually takes right at 6 1/2 quarts. It is an easy engine to work on. Yours may be due for plugs, PCV valve clean/replace, cabin air filter, and air filter. How many miles?
Damn! Do you think I should drain a 1/2 quart out? This sucks because everywhere I read said it takes 7 qts. After the oil change it was a hair above the full line but not much. Anyway it has 38,000 miles. I"m also doing a Transmission fluid/filter change and changing the rear differential fluid in the next month. Thanks for the suggestions above though as I should take care of some of these items as well.

I heard horror stories of people cross threading the plugs in the aluminum heads. Is this really that big of a job to do. I mean I changed them in my Durango 4.7 and had no problems at all.

Changing the plugs in the LX Hemi is a cake walk. The plugs will go past 40K without a lot of deterioration. I changed mine at 49K. They weren"t too bad. The plugs in my Ram (
87K) were way past due. Cross-threading anything IN anything is not a good thing to do. As for draining some oil out, "a hair above" is not too bad. Just remember the capacity is seven quarts - doesn"t mean the refill is. Too much is worse than too little.

Ok I will plan on doing the plugs then by the end of the summer. I might just wait and do them in the spring when I take it out of storage. We"ll see how the jobs go. I"m changing the trans fluid and filters this weekend and next weekend I"m changing the back axle fluid. I"ll have to check the brakes too because I don"t know how bad they are. Thanks for the heads up on the oil I"ll definitely be starting the measuring at 6 1/2 qts. next time. I guess I just thought it was an even seven straight up but this does not appear to be the case. Those Mopar oil filters are big compared to the little one on my wife"s 5.3L in her Hummer H3. Same size as my Durango 4.7L. :biggthump

Yeah, I did the seven-quart thing (ONCE). Learned my lesson from that one. It seems about 1/2 a quart stays in the motor. My Ram is the same way.
Ditto on the 7 quarts. I"ve also found that the dipstick reading is VERY affected by the level of the surface your car may be sitting on.

I"m glad you said that because I had my windows tinted yesterday and I checked the oil in the driveway. The driveway had a slight slope and it showed it was low 1/4 of a quart so I"ll check it again in my garage when I get home because that"s where it appeared to be a 1/4 quart over. :thinkerg:Thanks!KC_Metal
