How much is a pound, quid, guinea, bob, shilling etc. and how would it compare to dollars today?

Basically I'm interested to figure out how much that 2,000 guinea horse would cost today, how much Dad conned from Alfie, what their various salaries are, and how much they spend on "olives", etc.

A guinea is 21 shillings and a pound is 20, but for the sake of simplicity, we'll go with 2000 pounds.

The historic inflation calculator (http://www.thisismoney.co.uk/money/bills/article-1633409/Historic-inflation-calculator-value-money-changed-1900.html) equates 2k pounds in 1920 to being worth about 90k pounds now.

Today's exchange rate is 1.57 dollars to one pound. So, 2k pounds in the 1920s is roughly 141k in US dollars today.

This means Arthur Shelby Sr made off with a little over 35k US when he absconded with 500 pounds.

Edit: When John says Shelby limited is making 150 pounds per day, that is £6,752.43 today ($10,601.32 US).

Thank you. That horse was expensive as hell. But what's a bob?

Edit: Google says bob is slang for a shilling.

I thought it was strange that Tommy said they have 800 pounds left for real estate. By these calculations that aint much. Were houses comparatively cheap or something?

So I'm curious. I think it was Ada, going on and on about her socialist stuff, and she made a comment about Tommy having three Bugattis. I can't for the life of me find the cost of the early Bugattis. I'm guessing he might have owned a type 22 for cruising, and maybe had a couple of type 13 that he had other people race for him or something.. I don't know.. But if anyone can find a price guide, I love to see what he had wrapped up in cars.
